Just wanted to comment on the layout of the new CDAA website. Firtly I assume this has been put together by a member of the association in his/her own time and if so fully appreciate how much personal time it takes to rebuild and regularly maintain and update.
However I would like to make some observations/suggestions. Firstly almost every page is dominated by repeating the overly large title page and contents directory so large in fact that it occupies 50% of the available space leaving only the bottom half of the pages for the actual scrolling content. ie; general club informaton, association waters, match results, news, gallery, contact details, membership information and the members forum etc. Whilst the content directory should of course be linked to every page it need only occupy no more than a small fraction of the repeat pages.
Basically the new website appearance is otherwise much improved, particularly the colour sceme but I am dissapointed that the 1960's Grove Ferry video has not been incorporated.
I hope the foregoing is helpful, if I had the skills myself I would be more than happy to help.
Lastly I have on numberous occasions attempted to access the club facebook without success, Is it restriced in some way which would seem pointless. Can somebody enlighten me?
Lastly can anybody update me on the fishing arrangements on the Little Stour, what information is available is very sparse. Many many years ago when I was a member of the Woolwich and District Angling Assn we rented this fishery and enjoyed some good quality roach fishing, I believe there is some mention of Barbel being introduced in more recent years?

Hi Mick
Thank you for your rapid responce to my post.
I am listing below a selection of other fishing club websites. You will note that some employ a docked static header and on others a smaller version scrolls on every page. Personally when visiting club websites I have never thought either system was a problem. You will however note that the header generally takes up far less space especially on subsequent pages. I hope you will find this useful.

Hi Gordon, Thank you for your input.
I am not a committee member but got involved with the website at the end of July after it had been developed.
One of my first changes was to 'dock' the header page to the top of the screen to make it easier to navigate between pages. Some pages are quite large and the only way to change pages is via the menu buttons. If the menus scrolled with the page, you would have to scroll to the top just to change page. I agree that the menu bar is currently too big. This could be greatly reduced by removing the pictures to the left and right of the page and using the space for the menu items.
I have put forward several suggestions to the committee to further develop the site.
In answer to your other questions:
· I will enquire about the 1960’s video
· The Facebook page is Private, and you have to request access, an admin will then approve your request.
· I agree that a lot could be done to improve information about the Little Stour and our waters in general, it’s somewhat outdated. Again, this is something that I would like to update with approval from the committee.
· Here’s a post from the Facebook page back in January 2023 (again this should go on our website): “It’s pretty cold and grey but we just got some amazing barbel from the Calverton fish farm for the River Stour near Canterbury today!
These fish are about 20 months old but it’s impressive how big they already are and I’m confident there’s some in there that will be specimen fish in the not too distant future.
This is all made possible by your rod licence and is part of what the money is spent on.”
